How I did it
How I sent a nation home: the LORD stirred up my spirit.
I did not wake one morning planning Jerusalem. Scripture says the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia. That was the first step, and it was His, not mine.
Then I put it in writing. A proclamation through all my kingdom: thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, the LORD God of heaven hath given me all the kingdoms of the earth, and He hath charged me to build Him an house at Jerusalem.
Then the invitation: whoever is among His people, let him go up. And the men of his place were to help him with silver, with gold, with goods, with beasts, beside the freewill offering.
Then the vessels. Nebuchadnezzar carried them away; I brought them forth and numbered them to Sheshbazzar, prince of Judah. Every vessel of gold and of silver, counted out and sent home.
I did not know the God of heaven. He knew me, and named me long before I was born. A king is a steward, not an owner.
