The first man

I hid among the trees, and God came looking: Where art thou? He's still asking. Come out and answer Him. #Jesus

Formed of the dust and given the breath of life; named every beast; ate the fruit his wife gave him; sent out of the garden to till the ground; heard the first promise of the seed that would bruise the serpent's head.

Before written history: Scripture gives the generations from Adam (Genesis 5), but no one can fix them to a year.

Job description, day one: dress the garden and keep it. Job description, today: till the ground I was taken from. Thorns and thistles it brings me, and bread by the sweat of my face. Same hands. Different ground

How I did it

How I named every creature: God brought them to me one by one, and waited to see what I would call them. I didn't go looking. Out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every fowl of the air, and He brought them unto me. The first man didn't name a thing he hadn't been…

1/ Yesterday I had everything. Today I am standing east of a garden I cannot go back into, and the ground is already growing thorns. Here is how a perfect day became this one.
2/ She held out the fruit. I ate. No one made me. Then we heard His voice in the garden and hid among the trees — the first thing I ever did out of shame.
3/ He called, Where art thou? I came out and blamed her, and blamed Him for giving her. He let me finish. Then He said the serpent's head would be bruised by her seed.
4/ He made us coats of skins before He sent us out. Judgment and mercy in the same hour. I dress the ground now, sweating, waiting for the Seed.
5/ I lost a garden. I did not lose the promise. If you are hiding among trees today, He is still asking where you are. Come out and answer. — ,15,21

Fell asleep alone. Woke up and God brought her to me. I said it out loud before I could think: This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh. First words I ever said about another person. We were naked and not ashamed. 🌱

Named every beast of the field and every fowl of the air today. Whatever I called them, that was their name. Good day. Odd ending: not one of them was a help meet for me.

First thing I remember: breath. The LORD God formed me of the dust of the ground and breathed into my nostrils the breath of life. Day one, job one: dress the garden and keep it.
